Fire TV evolved !

The Fire TV truly evolved with the software update 51.1.5.0 released on the last days of March 2015. I would say that this firmware update finally makes my Fire TV a nice product. Many will argue that the added functionality should have been included a year ago, when releasing the Fire TV into the market, and I cannot disagree with that. But “it is what it is”, and today, a year later, we get to enjoy two  unlocked major features;  without the need to root or modify our Fire TV units in any way: Fire TV now accepts USB Mass Storage...

Amazon’s Fire TV Remote Control

My Fire TV remote control is failing on me. It just looses connection (apparently it randomly shuts off, appearing “offline” on the System / controllers menu).  When it happens, I start fidgeting with the remote control. I take the batteries off, then put them back again. I try to make the remote control to be “discoverable” by pressing the OK button (in the center of the “joystick wheel”) for 5-10 seconds, I wait some time, try it again, and when finding no response, go back to taking the batteries off… several times. Remote control your FireTV through USB

Last night I found myself with the dire need of controlling my FireTV through USB. How did this happen ? Easy enough, I like to fiddle with my FireTV. One particular achievement I am usually thankful for has been being able to add bluetooth headphones support into my FireTV. But as you can read in that earlier tutorial, first I had to install  (by sideloading, just as it is done with XBMC apk) a settings.apk into my FireTV. This settings.apk comprised of the full settings menu found on fully fledged android devices. Once installed, the Settings apk would allow me to access the...

Nyko game controller for FireTV

The Nyko game controller is a very interesting alternative for your FireTV, as it costs about half the price of the offical Amazon’s game controller, but works and feels just like it. Actually I feel that paying more than 20 dollars for a game controller, when weighting in the rather low game quality of your fireTV, is an overkill, so I would never have paid the money asked for the original game controller by Amazon. The Nyko game controller is compatible also with all Android devices (provided they run Android 3.0 or better). Check their own website and product specs...

FireTV Bluetooth Headphones

You surely got a nice set of Bluetooth headphones around. But then, your FireTV also got Bluetooth connectivity so you may wonder “What about using my bluetooth headphones ?” Well at least I know I did wonder about it. Fueled mainly by the need of watching somewhat noisy movies, while the kids are sleeping, my interest includes certain urgency. So I promptly started digging into this topic, with the hope of finding a solution… which I did find, kinda!. Let me tell you about it: At the time of this writing, the official online documentation for FireTV states that the Bluetooth interface includes...
